restringing stool

by "shazzbat" <shazzbat@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Dec 20, 2006 at 02:43 PM

Hi folks,

We have a small bathroom stool the top of which is made of string woven
left-right and front-rear, and it needs re-doing since one of the strands
has very nearly parted. I see it as not exactly rocket science, but I'm
sure
there are pitfalls for the first timer.

So, some hopefully not too stupid questions -

Are there particular types of string to prefer or to avoid?
(The current one seems fairly nylon-ish)

Are places like Hobbycraft a good source of strings in different
colours/gauges, I have a Hobbycraft not too far away I could visit. If
not,
where is better?

Should I start at one corner and work my way across, then do the other
direction, or is there a specific point to start at?

How best to get the tension right?

And finally, how best to tie off at the end so that it both isn't too
unsightly and keeps the tension?

TIA,

Steve
