Bernina 1008 made in Taiwan

by Jane Gillett <j.gillett@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Dec 31, 2006 at 11:02 AM

It's a while since my enquiry here about which machine to buy but now I'm
in a position to get it - we have a new room where it can live and not
have
to be put away - so it's time to bite the bullet.

I've more or less decided to go for the Bernina 1008 as it has the type of
features I'm going to want and with good Swiss engineering should be
reliable which is feature I really want. It has that reputation from what
I
read on the web.

However, I did read somewhere that they are not made in Switzerland now.
It
seems that when the Swiss factory was renovated the tools used to make the
Bernina were sent to Taiwan and the machine is made there now.

Is the machine still as reliable as it was? Do you know when Taiwan
manfacturing started and have there been any re****ts of changes in
reliability since then? I'll be paying for reliability (could get other
machines with the same features for a lot less) so it's im****tant.

I would be grateful for any information.

Thankyou
Jane
