Hi everyone,
10 years ago I was flying a Chrysalis and a Monarch C. Today, while
driving to work I suddenly felt an overwhelming loss... I realized
I've lost my way and spent too much time and money flying
helicopters. Looking back it seems like a waste... thousands of
dollars for 5 minute flights and hundreds of hours learning tricks
which are likely to pull another $100 bill out of my pocket. Then I
thought back... remember when I could spend a few hours tossing the
hand launch around at no expense... and the thrill of catching a
thermal over the parking lot and staying up for almost as long as I
wanted? The sleek lines of a sailplane and the peace and quiet of
soaring.
So after 10 years, I've returned to this forum to find out if hand
launch is still alive and well. I looked the dja*****ech website and
was saddened to see the Monarch C is no longer available, but
considering it's been 10 years, I am still surprised to see the
chrysalis is still there (my first 1.5M hand launch glider).
Was hand launch just a fad? Is it over? Please tell me it's not over.
I remember some hand launch contest in Orlando, FL, and a few hand
launch guys around the tampa area then, but even 10 years ago
(probably the peak) it was a small group.
thanks
-tom
