Re: Edge 540 60 Size

Generally, I fly at the high end of whatever engine range is recommended
for
a particular model. For instance: a .40-.46 plane will get a .46 engine. A
..46 to .60 will get a .60 if I can. Now, as far as a .60 sized plane, you
can use a .91 4 stroke with some mods to the plane, usually you have to
modify the throttle servo/linkage setup because most 4 stroke engines
(that
I have run across) have the throttle on the opposite side compared to most
2
strokes.
 A .90 sized 2 stroke is a lot heavier than a .60 2 stroke and I really
don't believe the pluses of .30 larger displacement out weigh (Hehehehe)
the
minuses of the heavier engine.
An Edge type plane is for acrobatics, not high speed so overpowering it in
this way, I still believe, is a waste and I am a firm believer in flying
the
plane, not the engine.
Now, if you want to use a .91 4 stroke instead of a .60 2 stroke, there
are
advantages especially with a 3D plane, mainly more torque and you can
swing
a much bigger prop.
I had an Ultra Stick 60 (R.I.P.) with a .91 4 stroke Magnum. Plane did not
fly real fast, but would hover and do slow motion tricks like nobody's
business.
Same with a .40 Katana powered with an OS .70 4 stroke. It wouldn't even
occur to me to put a .60 2 stroke on it because that would defeat the
purpose of that type of plane.
Now that you are saying a .91 instead of a .90 I am wondering if you were
talking about a 4 stroke all along in which case, never mind. ;-)
I would still (as a beginner) stick with a .60 2 stroke tho...
