I finally made it back from NC Friday evening. DS's deployment day was
moved back from Tuesday to Thursday. My parents had to come back as they
just couldn't stay, to begin with Dad had the U-Haul with their stuff on
the
back of his truck and couldn't take it off until it was unloaded. (It had
to
be turned in by Friday) So needless to say my parents were really
disappointed they couldn't see DS off. Fact of the matter was most of the
family's that had come in had to leave due to the set back. I rode back
with DIL in their very low to the ground car. Remind me to never buy on!
LOL
It was very hard to say good bye to DS but I was able to meet all of the
guys he works with, (Took 10 of them out to dinner Wednesday to get to
know
them better) and I know that he will be in good hands and with guys that
have the same honor code that he does.. He called when he arrived in
Germany and again when he arrived in Kuwait. He called again today, said
it
was very hot (128 degrees F.) and I'm sure it was worse with their gear
on.
They will be training in Kuwait until the middle of July then will fly to
their final destination in Iraq.
Once he arrives at his final destination they won't have electricity, no
running water, no a/c (of course with no electricity). Once a month they
will go to an American base for a few days to shower, send/receive mail,
and
resupply. They are hoping that things will improve by November but no one
is holding their breath. DS hopes to have leave for R&R in January. We
are
hoping but again, it will all depend on how things are going in Iraq.
September 2009 can't come fast enough!
