Priming a lager

by sdk <simon.kelly@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 15, 2008 at 07:16 PM

Hi All,

I'm about to bottle a beer that I've brewed using a lager yeast. I'll
be putting a few bottles in the back of the fridge (or in a mini
fridge if I can find a cheap one) for a couple of months. The rest I
am going to have to leave in the back room where it's about 10 - 12 C
for 3 - 4 weeks. I have a few questions about this and the priming I
should be doing.

1. Lagering in general.
Is lagering done before priming usually? Or is it ok to lager in the
bottle?

2. Bottles in the fridge.
Do I need to add more or less priming sugar as the beers going to be
at about 5 C?

3. Bottles in the back room.
I plan on using the same amount of priming as I would for an ale. Is
this too much for a lager yeast based beer at that sort of
temperature?

4. What is the best way to lager a beer (if you have the space,
equipment and an understanding wife)?

Cheers

Si
